Pinebrook
Sudbury, MA
This multi-phase renovation improves the comfort and functionality of the highly-used spaces in a Sudbury family’s home. The first phase transformed the basement into a TV/media lounge with built-in storage and a kitchenette; a game room with a pool table; a new powder room; and a home gym. LDa worked with the family to create separate yet visually connected recreation “zones” in a cozy, transitional atmosphere. Dark metal hardware, elegant neutral finishes and reclaimed barnboard doors and trim contribute to the rustic-modern spaces, which are furnished with durable, relaxed textiles and accented with sports memorabilia. Part of the stair now opens to the media lounge to improve the room’s connection to upstairs, and a new wall of storage is concealed behind sliding barn doors.
The second renovation overhauls the main level’s kitchen and sitting area with an improved layout and a sophisticated yet timeless look. The reconfigured kitchen greatly increases preparation space for the owners, who are avid cooks and bakers, by relocating the casual dining area to the adjacent former sitting zone. Headers were removed and the opening between these two previously separate spaces was widened to create a bright and open area. The new triple window above the farmhouse sink increases the connection to the expansive back yard and welcomes abundant natural light. With its white shaker cabinets, tumbled jet mist granite counters, and clean lines, the updated space embodies the traditional farmhouse kitchen, while the gray marble backsplash, applied in a unique pattern above the six-burner range, adds a modern touch.
