Seaside Clubhouse

Hingham, MA

What began as a modest backyard with a small pool and detached garage was transformed into a vibrant family campus designed for year-round recreation, entertaining, and togetherness. Reimagining the property as a private “clubhouse campus,” the design maximizes every square foot to create an extraordinary extension of the home.

Clubhouse campus

Designed around the family’s active lifestyle, every square foot was carefully planned to support recreation, wellness, entertaining, and family life. The result is a collection of flexible indoor and outdoor spaces that function as a seamless extension of the home.

Elevated recreation

Replacing the former garage, a new two-story clubhouse with a full basement anchors the property. Folding glass walls open to the pool and outdoor living areas, while the main level features a wet bar, ping-pong area, basketball court, and gathering spaces. Upstairs, a TV lounge and home office overlook the landscape.

Year-round play

Taking advantage of the site’s favorable topography, the basement was excavated to create a spacious recreation level centered around a state-of-the-art golf simulator designed for both left- and right-handed players. Interactive games and flexible recreation areas make the space equally appealing to adults and children year-round.

Hidden function

To accommodate the expanded lower level, pool equipment and storage were relocated to an underground vault and a new gatehouse. The gatehouse also provides dedicated storage for bicycles, gardening supplies, and seasonal equipment, preserving valuable recreation space while supporting the property’s everyday needs.

Unified design

Blending a contemporary clubhouse and landscape features with the traditional home and gatehouse risked dissonance, but thoughtful design and material selection achieved cohesion while giving each building a distinct identity. The family gained more living and recreation space while maintaining a unified property aesthetic.

Outdoor living

The landscape was reimagined as an extension of the clubhouse experience. Raised garden beds, a pergola, outdoor dining areas, and a redesigned pool environment encourage recreation and entertaining, while a reconfigured circular driveway adds guest parking and EV charging without compromising the landscape.
