Bluff Point

The goal for this repeat LDa client was for their new vacation home to feel comfortable and casual, with pops of color sprinkled throughout an overall soft, neutral palette. In response, the design uses earth tones and natural materials and introduces bright patterns in select spaces, including playful wallpapers in an upstairs bathroom (balloons!) and behind the bar (beverages!). On the wall behind the tub in the primary bathroom, colorful ceramic globes create a unique three-dimensional art installation.

Having joined the developer-built project in its early phases, LDa worked with the team to select wall coverings, finishes, and fixtures and to create customizations throughout the house. The addition of shiplap, open shelving, and sconces transforms a blank wall in the kitchen/dining space, while adding oak built-ins and floating shelves provides visual interest and extra storage in the living room. In an upstairs bedroom, the team turned a window nook with an awkward raised floor into a cozy daybed (complete with a custom mattress and cover), creatively making use of the space. 

LDa worked with the homeowners to choose furniture, rugs, and window treatments throughout the entire home—a mix of retail and custom pieces that includes a custom bed in the primary bedroom and custom coffee table in the living room. The team also partnered with Boston Art to procure artwork for every room of the house, complementing each space’s colors, textures, and patterns. 

While the plan was initially for the developer to deliver the house with an open, unfinished basement, the homeowners asked LDa to design a layout and finish the large space with multiple rooms to fit their lifestyle. In response, the basement features a game room, complete with a wet bar, as well as a media room, fitness room, and full bathroom.
