Urban Midcentury
Brookline, MA
A bit of an architectural rarity in the dense, historic Town of Brookline, this mid-century single family home was in need of additional space and improvements to the flow for its new owners - a family with young, active children. LDa designed a new family room and kitchen wing that would expand into the rear yard and be in keeping with the existing architecture. The cedar clad addition brings in added daylight and views with its pitched roof and generous use of windows. New landscaping further integrates the addition and creates an intimate, protected patio.
Inside, the layout was improved with some minor shifts in interior walls, and the new kitchen is open and contemporary, composed with durable materials that reference the home’s modern aesthetic.
