Miter Point

Miter Point

Wellfleet, MA

Looking to take advantage of their scenic location on the Cape, our clients approached LDa to build a new contemporary vacation home. On a site that slopes down towards the ocean, the house—with its simple façade and low profile--appears modest from the street, yet the backside reveals three levels of light-filled living spaces that offer incredible views of Wellfleet Harbor. A roofdeck and spa nestled into the landscape offer additional ways to enjoy the home’s prime location and surroundings.

Inside, the striking marble used for the kitchen’s floor and counter-to-ceiling backsplash pops against the sleek white cabinetry, opposite the dining area, where a custom live edge table provides ample seating. A glass elevator renders all floors accessible and allows for aging-in-place. The highly transparent rear façade, with its vast expanses of glass windows and doors and multiple decks, is in contrast with the predominantly solid streetside exterior. Oversized sliding glass doors separating the living room from a deck open from the corners, allowing for unobstructed views and blending interior and exterior living.  The home’s unique layout—a long, narrow plan—responds to the constraints and setbacks from the coastal bank and the street. With a building that is essentially “one room deep,” each room benefits from an ocean view.

Exterior finishes include a porcelain tile rainscreen system and a natural thin stone veneer on the front façade, with corten metal cladding panels on the rear of the house. The landscape design includes only native plant varieties to minimize the need for irrigation and blend with its surroundings.
