Lower Falls

Lower Falls

Waban, MA

As part of a multi-phase series of renovations and additions, our clients reenlisted LDa after successfully creating a finished basement, living room and master suite addition to their family home. For the second phase, they knew they needed a new addition that would include a larger kitchen, and a mudroom that better connected with their backyard and driveway.

After extensive renovations to the house during the initial phase, our clients wanted the new project to be considerate and cohesive, blending seamlessly with the rest of the house. We demolished the right rear of the home and stretched the home’s footprint, creating a larger space for a new kitchen and mudroom.

The kitchen features a large walnut and marble island, with plenty of perimeter counter space, and a dramatic walnut ceiling that slopes to the open mudroom, below. Off the kitchen is the formal dining room, where we widened the connection to the kitchen, redesigned the buffet area, and picked select furnishings to tie the two spaces together.

The new mudroom features multiple cubbies, coat closets, and firewood storage, accented by an eye-catching navy-blue cement star-patterned floor tile. The addition connects to the new rear exterior deck with new cable railing, Ipe decking, and Cedar trellises. In the front, we refinished the exterior and redesigned the curved entry roof above the front door. This project is a wonderful example of a thoughtful, well-planned, multi-phase renovation/addition built around this family’s daily living habits, and offers a home the family can grow with.
