Harvard Square Renovation

Harvard Square Renovation

Cambridge, MA

Targeted renovations focused on the kitchen and master bathroom bring improved lighting and spatial connections to the primary living spaces of a charming multi-level condo located just outside Harvard Square in Cambridge. Within the existing footprint, the kitchen was redesigned to encourage better flow, provide increased storage, and integrate functional components inside custom cabinetry. The new linear kitchen boasts increased usability and improved visual connections to both the rear breakfast area and the adjacent living room through an expanded opening featuring an interior transom window.

This strategy was continued in the open-plan dining room, library and stair hall, with the addition of crisp, square-edged wall paneling and custom railing millwork. These interventions serve to unite the public spaces of the home, imbue the stair with a more stately and sophisticated presence, and strengthen the connection between the parlor level and lower-level private spaces. In the downstairs master bedroom, the en-suite bathroom was renovated with all new fixtures and finishes. The footprint of the room was maintained, but the sense of space was greatly expanded by replacing a little-used Jacuzzi tub with a large, frameless glass shower enclosure and repositioning an expanded, wall-hung vanity opposite the room door for a more pleasing view from the bedroom.

LDa provided additional interior design services throughout the condo, assisting the owners with the selection of furniture, commissioned artwork and finishes in a curated blend of family antiques and new pieces.
