New Visitor Center at The Old Manse
New Visitor Center at The Old Manse
Concord, MA
The Old Manse is an 18th century home with historic ties to the Transcendentalist movement in Concord, Massachusetts. The site is famous for its American historical and literary associations, and is open to the public as a nonprofit museum owned and operated by the Trustees of Reservations.
LDa worked with the Trustees of Reservations to perform preliminary design explorations to enhance the interpretive experience with the construction of a new Visitor’s Center atop the foundation of the remaining barn foundations. The proposed Visitor Center would include flexible exhibit and function spaces, a cafe/kitchen, and private staff areas. The concept centered around a new barn modeled after historic barns in the area, with connections to the house and landscape that would reintegrate the homestead and associated outbuildings into a 21st century visitor experience.
