LDa was invited to attend the B2Green event which was sponsored by a group of businesses and non-profit groups from within Somerville, MA called GoGreen Somerville. Exhibitors included energy consultants, contractors, recycling companies, green roof specialists, wind turbine providers, transportation specialists, and local a local café to name a few.
Next Step Living provides their clients with a home energy-audits and upgrades to improve the energy-efficiency of their homes. This includes caulking leaks around windows and doors, changing incandescent light bulbs to compact fluorescent, tuning heating and cooling systems, and replacing appliances.
Apex Green Roofs is a Somerville-based design-build firm set up by two enthusiastic young men with a passion for making green roofs as a way to be more environmentally conscious. They told us about a project that they’re doing to install a green roof designed by students at Prospect Hill Academy and funded by a state grant.
Zapotec Energy is a Cambridge-based consultant firm that describes itself as a “moral agent” working to conserve non-renewable resources by properly connecting its clients to either solar or wind energy sources.
Long—time LDa collaborator Wolfers Lighting were showing some of the new LED and compact fluorescent fixtures that they are now selling in their new green lighting lab inside their Allston showroom.
Metro Ped is a company that uses 3-wheeled bicycle trucks to make deliveries for local companies. The bikes have a covered storage area and can handle up to 500 pounds and are intended to deliver magazines, groceries, and wholesale goods.
ZipCar is an innovative car-sharing company that provides cars on a need-only basis to people in urban areas, relieving pressure on parking and traffic.
Several LDa employees do not own cars and commute to work by bike or T and then use the ZipCars conveniently located in our neighboring parking lot for work-related travel that is out of bicycle range.
LDa is an enthusiastic supporter of local green business and events. We recently participated in down:2:earth and are preparing a workshop submission for Greening the City: Fostering Inspired and Innovative Leadership for Just and Sustainable Urban Communities, at Lesley University in the fall.
