Birch Grove

Birch Grove

Hingham, MA

Seeing an opportunity to add some recreation space to their unfinished basement, our Hingham clients asked us to fit a golf simulator, bar, home gym, playroom, craft room, powder room, storage and a media room into the lower level of their craftsman style home.

The resulting plan for the basement aimed to camouflage its humble beginnings and be a bright, modern space that never quite feels underground. Using a modern white palette, with steel and glass accents, we created a flexible space that uses clever storage solutions, built-ins and space saving barn doors to open and conceal space as needed, allowing a golf game and puppet show to happen simultaneously.

During the initial basement project, the stair was upgraded and better connected to the mudroom and nearby kitchen by removing unnecessary walls. Excited by the new changes, the client also asked LDa to help with an interior design overhaul on the first floor. A little-used pantry was transformed in to a homework area, and the former playroom became a new home office. All new paint, wallcoverings, trim, furniture and décor was sourced for the foyer, living, dining and family rooms. A similar modern palette from the basement was used, with a calm white base accented with sophisticated metallic accents and touches of color.
