Tufts University | 123 Packard Ave

Somerville, MA

Tufts purchased this early-1900s building, once home to the Theta Delta Chi fraternity, to expand its on-campus housing portfolio. LDa was enlisted to renovate the property, upgrading it to meet modern residential standards and increasing the overall bed count.

Graduate housing reimagined

Planned initially as undergraduate housing, the program shifted to serve graduate students. The redesign emphasizes independence by creating all single bedrooms with full-size beds, single-user bathrooms, and four kitchens throughout the building for those who prefer to cook.

Future-ready living

The building envelope and systems were fully upgraded to meet the latest energy code and eliminate fossil fuel use. A new entry, bathrooms, and elevator also make the building significantly more accessible, supporting Tufts’ campus-wide goal of universally accessible residences.
