Recognizing the need for additional workforce housing on
the Island, the Town of Nantucket hired LDa to design a new housing development. As proposed, our plan includes 64 apartment units totaling 114 bedrooms with a variety of unit types, including studios, 1, 2, and 3-bedrooms, spread over three separate buildings surrounding a community green.
The scale of the buildings thoughtfully integrates the
rich historical fabric that makes Nantucket uniquely New England. Individual entries on many of the first-floor units
help to create a sense of place and individuality within
the larger community. Generous porches serve to ground
the buildings and provide a transitional community space
between the interior and exterior of the buildings.
Future residents will benefit from the residential character
and community-focused elements, encouraging gathering, recreation, and ties to the neighborhood and Town.
