The Residences at the Harvard Club
This project transformed a warren of small guest rooms (that had previously been used by the adjacent Harvard Club for visiting members) into five new luxury condo units on Commonwealth Avenue.
This project transformed a warren of small guest rooms (that had previously been used by the adjacent Harvard Club for visiting members) into five new luxury condo units on Commonwealth Avenue.
The project combines two late 19th-century Peabody & Stearns-designed townhouses with Victorian, neoclassical, and Gothic revival features. The renovated space includes condominiums ranging in size from 2,400 sf to 4,000 sf, with a new 3,000 sf penthouse addition, for a total of 24,000 sf of finished interior space over five floors.
The renovated lobby makes a fresh statement while harking back to the grandeur of the historic buildings.
Interior finishes were selected in keeping with the historic character of the building while incorporating modern amenities. Updated building systems, accessibility improvements, and a new elevator were carefully integrated into the challenging structures or carefully camouflaged when necessary.
In the basement level, the layout was reconfigured to accommodate the Harvard Club’s administrative offices and unit storage for the condominium tenants. In the rear parking area, new entrances and hardscape improvements were made to improve accessibility and aesthetics for both the adjacent Harvard Club and the private residences.
