Scotts Grove Exterior Boardwalk Hero

Scott’s Grove Affordable Housing

Martha’s Vineyard | Tisbury, MA

Scott’s Grove consists of nine affordable housing units connected by a classic Vineyard boardwalk system. The complex was designed to resemble a village of modestly sized residential homes, with the buildings featuring the wood-shingled Cape style found throughout the island. The project is sensitive to the surrounding neighborhoods and landscape in both scale and style.

Connection with nature and community

All units feature a mix of shared and private landscape areas that revolve around “Vineyard boardwalks”—raised walkways that minimize disruption to the existing natural landscape and serve as the connecting paths between the parking areas and the duplex homes. The walkways expand and become common gathering “outdoor rooms” available to all.

Smart components, thoughtful living

The one-, two-, and three-bedroom units are based on a refined set of integrated space components linked together. While the varied composition establishes individual identity for each unit, the repetition of space components helps minimize construction costs. The project was designed to ENERGY STAR Tier 3 performance requirements.
