Montgomery Park Living Room AJS

Montgomery Park

South End | Boston, MA

At the edge of a secluded, tree-lined pocket park in the South End, this classic brownstone was thoughtfully reimagined for modern life. The long, narrow, compartmentalized plan was transformed into a more fluid and connected home for a family.

An effortless flow

The main living level now unfolds from front to back as a continuous sequence of dining, kitchen, and living spaces. A custom glass wall at the stairs preserves openness and light, while a concealed powder room maintains clean sightlines.

Crafted for compact living

Upstairs, a boatbuilder’s logic shaped the design, with integrated wardrobes and built-ins bringing order, efficiency, and elegance to tight rooms. Every element was carefully considered to make the home feel composed and generous within its compact footprint.

Parisian influence, local character

A turn-of-the-century Parisian sensibility informs the home’s detailing, from recreated plasterwork to refined paneling and furniture-grade cabinetry. Warm, contrasting materials—walnut and stained white oak, pale gray millwork, jewel-toned walls, quartzite, black accents, and mixed metals—create a layered and timeless interior.

Layers of detail

At the heart of the home, a relocated and restored marble mantelpiece anchors the living spaces with a sense of history and permanence. Traditional character is balanced with crisp contemporary interventions throughout.

Performance behind the scenes

Behind the calm, elegant interiors, concealed steel, reinforced framing, and carefully coordinated mechanical systems make the home’s openness possible. The result is a brownstone that feels effortless, comfortable, and authentic.

Bridging past & present

By balancing history with modern intervention, Montgomery Park creates a home that is both timeless and attuned to contemporary living.
