Designed around our clients’ extensive sculpture collection, this home is both a living space and an art gallery. Custom walls and backlit shelving showcase each piece, while a glass staircase and adjacent elevator elegantly unite form, function, and accessibility on every level.
What began as the “Clubhouse Project” evolved into a complete reimagining of the house as the clients’ primary residence. The design creates a bright, inviting space where their glass art collection takes center stage, supported by a custom glass staircase and an adjacent elevator that ensure accessibility across all levels.
We collaborated with our clients to breathe new life into favorite existing furnishings, from reupholstering the classic Gianfranco Frattini Bull Chair to embracing the worn character of a 1920s Art Deco rug. This mix of old and new elements strikes a balance between elegance and comfort.
Though reminiscent of a museum, the home was designed to be welcoming and livable. Places of restoration are integrated into the home. Natural woods, bold colors, and layered textures create a warm ambiance, ensuring the space supports both intimate family life and lively gatherings with friends, guests, and grandchildren.
Our team responded to project challenges, including a steeply sloped site, strict Historic Commission guidelines, and complex structural requirements. From the street, the home maintains a modest presence, while at the back, a bold contemporary addition extends towards the reservoir, enclosing a glass-wrapped indoor pool wing.
