Perched above downtown Providence, Blu Violet Rooftop Bar and Restaurant atop the Aloft Hotel offers sweeping city views and a vibrant social setting. The renovation focused on elevating the guest experience through thoughtful design interventions that align the venue more closely with the hotel’s contemporary identity.
The design reimagines arrival as a cinematic moment. Guests step off the elevator into an intimate, speakeasy-inspired foyer conceived more like a residential apartment entry than a commercial corridor. Saturated paint colors, applied moldings, metallic wallpapers, and curated artwork establish a sense of warmth and intrigue, while a plush seating vignette doubles as both a waiting area and a photogenic social backdrop.
Rather than pursuing a full rebuild, the design emphasized targeted improvements that maximize impact through efficient means. Lighting, finishes, and spatial organization were carefully reimagined to enhance atmosphere and flow while preserving existing elements where possible—demonstrating how thoughtful, resource-conscious design can reshape the perception of a space.
Throughout the space, layered materials introduce depth and tactility. Velvet and chenille upholstery, faux leather seating, brass accents, and metallic finishes create a moody, atmospheric palette. Existing wood paneling and select furnishings were intentionally reused and reframed within the new design, demonstrating how thoughtful surface upgrades can dramatically transform the character of a space.
Operational improvements were integrated alongside aesthetic upgrades. A discreet service bar extension improves staff circulation and allows the main bar to function as a true social centerpiece. Lighting and audiovisual systems were selectively enhanced to support presentations, private events, and evening programming while maintaining the venue’s intimate ambiance.
Designed to accommodate corporate gatherings, cocktail receptions, and seated celebrations, the venue prioritizes flexibility. Concealed storage zones and adaptable furniture layouts allow the space to transition seamlessly between event types while maintaining a cohesive atmosphere. The result is an elevated rooftop destination that encourages guests to gather, linger, and return.
