I believe that design enhances the dialogue and reciprocity between the natural world and our built environment, and that architecture sustains and enriches the ways we live, work, learn and play.
Doug is one of the co-founding Principals of LDa and continues to focus his energies on designing projects, client collaboration, firm management, and mentoring the talented young architects and designers at LDa. His private residential, affordable housing, and cultural projects have been widely published and received numerous regional and national awards. Sustainability has been at the foundation of Doug’s design philosophy since the 1980s, and contextually and historically sensitive contemporary design solutions characterize all his work.
Doug is a 2013 Inductee of the New England Design Hall of Fame, a member of the Boston Society of Architects, on the Board of Advisors for the Appalachian Mountain Club, and a former chair of the Melrose Energy Commission. He holds architectural licenses in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Colorado, and Montana.
Doug holds a Master of Design Studies degree from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design and a B.Arch from Montana State University. He also received training from the Architectural Association (AA) School of Architecture in London, England.
