The First Baptist Church of Wakefield is designed to serve the needs of today’s congregation while welcoming the next generation. The new building replaces a beloved historic church lost to a devastating lightning strike and fire in 2018.
Informed by the former church and the tradition of New England churches on the green, the new design centers on a 200-person sanctuary and a flexible fellowship hall.
An adjacent kitchen and lounge support a variety of activities—from worship and classes to social gatherings and community events. The building also includes staff offices, a dedicated children’s room, and has been thoughtfully designed to accommodate future expansion.
The design emphasizes openness between rooms to create a strong connection between fellowship and worship spaces. Flexibility was also a central goal, ensuring the building can support a wide range of uses for both the congregation and the broader community.
