Picking paint can be a frustrating task, especially when there are so many options to consider, but it is a very powerful design component that shouldn't be overlooked. It can make your space feel light and bright, or dark and dramatic, which is why it is so fun to pick out shades with our clients. We've rounded up a few of our interior designers to share with you their "tried and true" paint color recommendations that they love to use. Scroll down to see swatches we love and how they look in real life!<img alt="" src="/sites/default/files/lda_paintcolors.jpg" style="width: 1200px; height: 2118px;" /></p> <p class="rtecenter"><a href="https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us">Benjamin Moore</a> | <a href="https://www.farrow-ball.com/en-us">Farrow &amp; Ball</a></p> <p>Narrowing down our favorite colors is only the beginning. Once you have your shades selected, you need to think of how it will match the rest of the room. Do you want a matte wall color with a satin trim? Or a glossy finish from floor to ceiling? Our biggest tip to you is to test these colors again and again! Paint chips unfortunately are not an exact science, so get a test pot and paint it on your surface of choice to get a real sense of how the paint reacts to light (or lack thereof) in your space. We love playing with different paint finishes to get a more polished look, and recommend looking into satin, matte, or eggshell finishes, because sometimes a subtle difference in finish can change the room drastically. Check out below how our designers would pair their favorite colors:<img alt="" src="/sites/default/files/lda_paintcolors2.jpg" style="width: 1200px; height: 2118px;" /></p> <p>So now that you have seen how we would pair our favorite paint colors, let's see them in real life! Below are a couple of projects that showcases a few shades from our list:</p> <p> </p> <p><img alt="" src="/sites/default/files/lda_paintcolors3_0.jpg" style="width: 1200px; height: 2118px;" /></p> <p class="rtecenter"><a href="https://lda-architects.com/our-work/projects/blue-hills">Blue Hills</a> | Living Room</p> <p>An all time LDa classic! Use different finishes from <a href="https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us">Benjamin Moore</a> to add contrast— matte, glossy and eggshell; in case you like your white both shaken and stirred. </p> <p>As you can see in our <a href="https://lda-architects.com/our-work/projects/blue-hills">Blue Hills</a> living room, the Chantilly Lace paired walls and ceiling look clean and crisp, even when paired with a daring chartreuse color. </p> <p>Interior Designer, Ashleigh Sanicola, loves pairing Chantilly Lace with Silver Satin, <em>“For me, it’s the ultimate neutral pairing. It is a familiar, calming color called "Classic Blue," which we love to use a variation of in our color palettes when designing our client's homes. This quote from <a href="https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/pantone-color-of-the-year-2020">Architectural Digest</a> sums up perfectly why we gravitate towards this particular hue:</p> <p><em>"Blue, from an emotional, psychological standpoint, has always represented certain amount of calm and dependability. From the interior décor to the art hanging on the walls, every material within the Archer was carefully considered and meant to evoke a sense of craftmanship and the timelessness of Beacon Hill.</p> <p>From the beginning, owners JDMD wanted to invest in original and local art as an approach to placemaking, engaging buyers and benefitting future residents. Throughout the building JDMD was supportive of adding distinctive artwork to make each floor feel unique and tailored to its residents, as opposed to displaying poster or stock images. Our whole team worked closely with JDMD and <a href="http://www.bostonartinc.com/">Boston Art</a> to curate a collection that blends style, technique, and media to give the luxury condominiums a bespoke residential feel.</p> <p class="rtecenter"><img alt="" src="/sites/default/files/bosart_38a_gallery_worktable_storagearea_np_62-el.jpg" style="width: 1200px; height: 900px;" /><br /> <em><a href="http://www.bostonartinc.com/">Boston Art</a> | Photographer: <a href="http://ericlaignel.com/home.html">Eric Laignel</a></em></p> <p>LDa has been lucky enough to work with the talented staff at <a href="http://www.bostonartinc.com/">Boston Art</a> on our residential and commercial projects, and they continually provide exceptional service. Whether through visits to their Boston showroom, or working remotely, they are dedicated to thoughtfully matching clients to artists, leveraging the depth and diversity of their collection. From the initial discussion through their personalized proposals, selection, customization, and installation, they make it easy for the design team and clients to select the best pieces for their project.</p> <p class="rtecenter"><img alt="" src="/sites/default/files/archer_artwork_presentation.jpg" style="width: 1200px; height: 675px;" /><br /> <em>Artwork Presentation by <a href="http://www.bostonartinc.com/">Boston Art</a></em><br />  </p> <p>For the Archer Residences, this process began with a group showroom visit, and an initial collection of options. Working together with the owners and Boston Art, LDa narrowed the selection down to a select group of pieces for the common areas and seven residential floors that represent a variety of artists and subject matter. Artwork was chosen on feedback from the owner designers to complement the interior design scheme, creating a cohesive atmosphere</p> <p class="rtecenter"><img alt="" src="/sites/default/files/the_archer_residences_lobby_5.jpg" style="width: 1200px; height: 1200px;" /><br /> <em>The Archer Residence's Lobby | Rendering by <a href="https://neoscape.com/work/">Neoscape</a><br /> Artwork Above Fireplace by <a href="https://lorischouela.com/home.html">Lori Schouela</a><br /> Reception Desk Artwork by <a href="https://www.mattshlian.com/">Matt Shilan </a></em></p> <p>In the lobby, there are two focal art pieces that welcome guests and residents. One is a bright white abstract piece that was made by a local artist <a href="https://lorischouela.com/home.html">Lori Shouela</a>— created from rose petals imprinted with an aluminum dye-sublimation process. The result is subtle and striking from afar, but up close it is minutely detailed and mesmerizing.</p> <p>The second piece was custom designed as part of the face of the lobby desk, and is being made by paper artist <a href="https://www.mattshlian.com/">Matt Shlian</a>, who creates folded geometric, modular forms in preset patterns. The piece for the Archer will be set behind a glass panel with specialized LED lighting to showcase the three-dimensional texture. If you scroll down below, you can see the artist creating our custom piece and the ombre effect of the dye on each section. We are thrilled at the result and are excited to see it get installed soon! </p> <p class="rtecenter"><img alt="" src="/sites/default/files/blog_archer_art.jpg" style="width: 1200px; height: 927px;" /><br /> <em><a href="https://www.mattshlian.com/">Matt Shilan</a> in his studio working on the custom piece of artwork for the Archer's reception desk.</em></p> <p>We hope you enjoyed this sneak peek into the Archer Residences, stay tuned for the installation of the art pieces in late Summer!</p> </div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/explore-lda/list/interior-design">Interior Design</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/explore-lda/list/archer-residences">The Archer Residences</a></div></div></div> Thu, 07 May 2020 19:10:29 +0000 LDa 2789 at https://lda-architects.com Showroom Tour: Thread https://lda-architects.com/explore-lda/showroom-tour-thread <div class="field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><p class="rtecenter"><img alt="" src="/sites/default/files/img_2089_0.jpg" style="width: 1200px; height: 800px;" /></p> <p>A couple of weeks ago, our interiors team took a trip to Thread to view their new workroom space located in Holliston, MA. <a href="http://www.threadworkroom.com/what-we-do.html">Thread</a> is a full service workroom that specializes in soft home furnishings and window treatments, and we are lucky to have worked with them on a number of projects. It makes sense why since it's the hub of the home; where you can eat, socialize and entertain in one space, but there’s a tendency to overlook the kitchen’s essential counterpart— the pantry. It’s a hidden gem of sorts, which can pack a lot of punch into a small amount of space.</p> <p>Pantries don’t necessarily have to be an extension of your kitchen—they can have their own personality.  From our experience, we’ve found that homeowners like to be daring with bold colors or materials because pantries are often partially hidden from view, making it less risky to experiment.</p> <p class="rtecenter"><img alt="" src="/sites/default/files/inspiration_pantry_trends_dark_3.jpg" style="width: 1200px; height: 1200px;" /></p> <p class="rtecenter"><em>Dark and Dramatic Inspiration (Clockwise From Top Left)</em>: <a href="https://www.elledecor.com/design-decorate/room-ideas/g10267334/butler-pantry/?slide=12">1</a>, <a href="https://www.elledecor.com/life-culture/entertaining/tips/a6515/before-after-ultimate-butlers-pantry-house-beautiful/">2</a>, <a href="https://www.elledecor.com/design-decorate/room-ideas/g10267334/butler-pantry/?slide=19">3</a>, <a href="https://www.elledecor.com/design-decorate/room-ideas/g10267334/butler-pantry/?slide=26">4</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/53621051796931084/">5</a>, <a href="https://deringhall.com/interior-designers/lee-ann-thornton-interiors">6</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/142848619412923615/">7</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/314548355218213882/">8</a></p> <p>One of our interior designers, Ashleigh Sanicola, has noticed that when it comes to designing your pantry, there’s an opportunity to give it a separate identity. “We try to create an unexpected moment. Whether it’s colorful cabinetry and funky wallpaper or a statement chandelier and textured tile, we’ve noticed that our clients are open to be adventurous with materials in the pantry because they know it won’t end up overwhelming the space.”</p> <p>In addition to introducing vibrant materials to your pantry, it’s also important think about its location: Natural light is a key component for any room, including the smaller spaces in your home. In addition to the right amount of natural light, pantries must also be practical and useful.</p> <p class="rtecenter"><img alt="" src="/sites/default/files/inspiration_pantry_trends_subtle.jpg" style="width: 1200px; height: 1200px;" /></p> <p class="rtecenter"><em>Clean and Subtle Inspiration <span style="text-align: center;">(Clockwise From Top Left)</span></em><span style="text-align: center;">: <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/AQjn09FNHcqtMd5WK37PqucetWf3nBErV1va7xJA4wG7KeW8RZwaj_o/">1</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com.au/pin/295056213072712557/">2</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com.au/pin/371406300510471736/">3</a>, <a href="http://www.humphreymunson.co.uk/kitchen/georgian-hunting-lodge-project/#lg=1&amp;slide=14">4</a>, <a href="http://ruemag.com/home-tour-2/a-new-old-18th-century-home">5</a>, <a href="https://www.elledecor.com/design-decorate/room-ideas/g10267334/butler-pantry/?slide=1">6</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com.au/pin/553590979187750079/">7</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/134052526391060078/">8</a></span></p> <p>“Pantries are obviously meant to be functional, but in addition to being a prep space, it can be a great introduction to the kitchen or other living areas; so making it beautiful and functional is always crucial. A great way to combine the two is to provide ample storage space with cabinetry and make the upper cabinets glass, which helps showcase nicer glassware and china but doesn’t subtract from the overall purpose of the pantry” says Ashleigh.</p> <p>So whether you’re looking to add a little life into a forgotten nook, or you’re looking to include more drama into your interiors, the main takeaway from all of this is: be bold! The space may be small but the payoff is big.</p> <p>Take a look at some LDa's pantry's down below for more inspiration!</p> <p class="rtecenter"><img alt="" src="/sites/default/files/grey_oaks_pantry_0.jpg" style="width: 800px; height: 1200px;" /></p> <p class="rtecenter"><a href="/node/2109">Grey Oaks</a></p> <p class="rtecenter"><img alt="" src="/sites/default/files/rockwoodresidence07.jpg" style="width: 800px; height: 1200px;" /></p> <p class="rtecenter"><a href="/node/1792">Rockwood Residence</a></p> <p class="rtecenter"><img alt="" src="/sites/default/files/hilltop_gambrel_butler.jpg" style="width: 741px; height: 1200px;" /></p> <p class="rtecenter"><a href="/node/472">Hilltop Gambrel</a></p> <p class="rtecenter"><img alt="" src="/sites/default/files/puddingstone_pantry_0.jpg" style="width: 778px; height: 1200px;" /></p> <p class="rtecenter"><a href="http://www.lda-architects.com/our-work/projects/puddingstone-residence">Puddingstone Residence</a></p> <p class="rtecenter"><img alt="" src="/sites/default/files/older_pantries_1.jpg" style="width: 1200px; height: 960px;" /></p> <p class="rtecenter"><a href="/node/2176">Tudor Estate</a> | <a href="/node/2246">Oxford Park</a><br /> <em>*These pantries are both original to the two historic home's (featured above) that we renovated!</em></p> <p><em>Some history…</em><br /> The butler’s pantry was usually located right off of the kitchen (like current day) but was mainly used to store silver and china. One trend we’ve noticed resurfacing, especially for spring, is wallpaper. Whether on an accent wall or even as a statement on the ceiling, we’ve seen all different kinds of wallpaper being incorporated into people’s homes. From metallic or embroidered to textured or floral, homeowners are becoming more adventurous when it comes to decorating the spaces in their homes!</p> <p>LDa Interior Designer, <a href="/node/1627">Dean Sawyer</a>, says: “People have let go of the bad 70s wallpaper and are looking to be more adventurous with their design. Wallpaper is the perfect way to add another layer for dimension, texture and depth.” Dean also mentioned that he loves mixing and matching prints throughout the room. We've noticed that eclecticism is on the rise which translates into a well-balanced and eye-catching design. <em>Tip:</em> The perfect way to downplay a pattern ( or a combination of patterns) is to pair it with a neutral palette.</p> <p>One of our Interior Designer’s, <a href="/node/1409">Erin Tracey</a>, said “Our clients are looking to get more formal again but still incorporate it with a minimalist palette. We’re seeing wallpaper used as an accent to a room, rather than just as a statement piece.” Erin’s favorite part about wallpaper is that it is perfect for any room, and it’s simple to swap out. “Homeowner’s just need to view it as another accessory in the home, rather than a novelty piece.”</p> <p>Current wallpaper materials are much easier to install (and easier to take out), so if you get tired of one look, you can swap it in the years to come.  Take a look below to see how we’ve been incorporating different types of wallpaper into our projects! </p> <p class="rtecenter"><img alt="" src="/sites/default/files/cosmocondo_foyer_0.jpg" style="width: 800px; height: 1234px;" /></p> <p class="rtecenter"><a href="/node/2031">Cosmopolitan Condominium</a><br /> Wallpaper: Phillip Jeffries | <a href="https://www.phillipjeffries.com/shop/CARD-AG-GILDED/5764/">Gilded Age</a></p> <p class="rtecenter"><img alt="" src="/sites/default/files/riverside_park_dining_banquet.jpg" style="width: 800px; height: 1171px;" /></p> <p class="rtecenter"><a href="/node/2075">Riverside Park</a><br /> Alcove Wallpaper: Innovations | <a href="https://www.innovationsusa.com/detail.php?n=denmark&amp;s=DEN-793&amp;col=Ringsted&amp;q=textile">Denmark</a><br /> Ceiling Wallpaper: <a href="https://www.starkcarpet.com/">Stark</a> | Tea Squares | Color: Silver Onyx</p> <p class="rtecenter"><img alt="" src="/sites/default/files/birch_grove_mudroom.jpg" style="width: 800px; height: 1200px;" /></p> <p class="rtecenter">Birch Grove<br /> Wallpaper: Hygge &amp; West | <a href="https://www.hyggeandwest.com/products/serengeti-silver">Serengeti</a></p> <p class="rtecenter"><img alt="" src="/sites/default/files/willowhill_livingdetail_2.jpg" style="width: 803px; height: 1200px;" /></p> <p class="rtecenter"><a href="/node/1981">Willow Hill</a><br /> Wallpaper: Flavor Paper | <a href="https://www.flavorpaper.com/wallpaper/murals/cuben">Cuben</a></p> <p class="rtecenter"><img alt="" src="/sites/default/files/upton_park_master_bedroom_0.jpg" style="width: 800px; height: 1067px;" /></p> <p class="rtecenter"><a href="/node/2150">Upton Park</a><br /> Wallpaper: Cowtan &amp; Tout | <a href="http://designs.cowtan.com/Design/20347-03">Dynasty</a></p> </div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/explore-lda/list/interior-design">Interior Design</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/explore-lda/list/trends">Trends</a></div></div></div> Wed, 21 Feb 2018 15:45:46 +0000 LDa 2272 at https://lda-architects.com Interior Trends Forecast for 2018 https://lda-architects.com/explore-lda/interior-trends-forecast-2018 <div class="field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><p class="rtecenter"><img alt="" src="/sites/default/files/trends_1_4.jpg" style="width: 1200px; height: 1200px;" /></p> <p class="rtecenter"><em>Photo Sources (Clockwise From Top Left):  </em><a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/46936021100298562/">1</a>, <a href="http://www.mydomaine.com/the-best-tiled-kitchens/slide7">2</a>, <a href="http://www.mydomainehome.com.au/shop-velvet-interiors-decor-trend?utm_campaign=article-share&amp;utm_source=social-pinterest-button&amp;utm_medium=social">3</a>, <a href="https://www.jonathanadler.com/on/demandware.static/-/Sites-catalog-master/default/dw94f394fa/hi-res/ushi-res/TopangaSofa-01crop2-styled-fall15-jonathan-adler.jpg">4</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/37436240628090745/">5</a>, <a href="http://www.elledecor.com/design-decorate/house-interiors/a12454743/lake-shore-drive/">6</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/165859198750224593/">7</a>, <a href="http://www.elledecor.com/design-decorate/house-interiors/a5321/kelly-wearstler-midcentury-modern-decor/">8</a></p> <p>With a New Year upon us, it’s hard not to get into the spirit of re-inventing yourself, or in this case, your home! Last year was a great example of trying new things and experimenting with color, texture, and different aesthetics. We’re predicting 2018 to have some similarities to 2017, but with a bold twist. From dramatically dark kitchens to unexpectedly colorful upholstery, there will be a lot of ways to incorporate color in no matter what room you’re decorating. We suspect that jewel tones will still be immensely popular just like in 2017, in addition to earth tones; one of our interior designers even said that green is on its way to becoming the new navy! Keep an eye out for rich burgundy tones, emerald, plum, rust and mustard colored hues because they are classic colors that are easy to integrate into your home. If you really want to get on the greenery trend, add a little life to your room by incorporating plants. It’s an easy way to fill lackluster corners, add depth to your room and make a cleaner space for you visually (and physically!)</p> <p class="rtecenter"><img alt="" src="/sites/default/files/trends_3_2.jpg" style="width: 1200px; height: 1200px;" /></p> <p class="rtecenter"><em style="text-align: center;">Photo Sources (Clockwise From Top Left): </em><a href="http://www.elledecor.com/design-decorate/house-interiors/a12454743/lake-shore-drive/">1</a>, <a href="https://www.dorisleslieblau.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/interior-decor-trends-2018-wabi-sabi-bathroom-concrete-sink.jpg">2</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/ARMxX7n7C8QlxEewVwtaYzzPndGUV5Ww81_NAJzypT8JK-buqnLDMXA/">3</a>, <a href="http://www.mydomainehome.com.au/shop-velvet-interiors-decor-trend?utm_campaign=article-share&amp;utm_source=social-pinterest-button&amp;utm_medium=social">4</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/42713896447436256/">5</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/690880399058515821/">6</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/360358407670724362/">7</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/AQfwYkviOpXeXaED9Z2_k7EzOjewQT73lxza3T1ixf_IZEPgW7mpnng/">8</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/AZQErvSs4FREQwD6EeMxSSILT3Yv3y_jwDbDo9TyvMGe-RAYgYdb06M/">9</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/337699672051686837/">10</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/165859198750224593/">11</a>, <a href="http://www.elledecor.com/design-decorate/house-interiors/a9640041/hinsdale-illinois-house-tour/">12</a></p> <p>We’re thinking that 2018 will be the year of mixing and matching. From black and brass finishes, to fringe and leather, there is no stopping the combinations of materials for a more authentic and lived-in look. If you haven’t noticed already, velvet has become the new go-to fabric. Velvet makes any piece of furniture look classic &amp; cozy, and if you pick a bold color to accompany it, it’s sure to be a statement piece. Mixing your materials/ finishes is less thematic and more of a timeless approach to make sure your space never feels dated.</p> <p class="rtecenter"><img alt="" src="/sites/default/files/trends_4_3.jpg" style="width: 1200px; height: 1200px;" /></p> <p class="rtecenter"><em style="text-align: center;">Photo Sources (Clockwise From Top Left): </em><span style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/44613852542279892/">1</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/294704369358348942/">2</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/610519293205240871/">3</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/102034747788211268/">4</a>, <a href="http://www.elledecor.com/design-decorate/house-interiors/g2739/house-tour-middle-eastern-princess-paris-apartment/?slide=3">5</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/441000988501483201/">6</a>, <a href="http://www.elledecor.com/design-decorate/house-interiors/a12454743/lake-shore-drive/">7</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/630292910319641931/">8</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/229120699774772042/">9</a>, <a href="http://www.elledecor.com/design-decorate/house-interiors/a5321/kelly-wearstler-midcentury-modern-decor/">10</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/362469469995589082/">11</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/69313281749631180/">12</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/142426406948791776/">13</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/AYXqvotlLiJM2Ik0RRRcEtYrOw3-gm8Dh54xprpMFuKXIXIhp3QHjZA/">14</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/292593307028487768/">15</a></span></p> <p>While we’re on the topic of mixing and matching, we’ve also noticed that it’s translated into what sort of patterns we are picking for our materials. Terrazzo is one of the new comeback materials and patterns of 2018 and you’ll be sure to see it used as a backsplash in the kitchen or even in the bathroom. It’s a subtle yet striking piece that gives boost of color in a non-overwhelming manner—perfect for smaller spaces! We’ve also noticed that geometric patterns and mosaics are gaining popularity and are a perfect solution for dull entryways or even powder rooms.</p> <p>For 2018, we are sensing that designers are digging up designs from the past, but modernizing them for a fresh yet refined look.  Art Deco is slowly creeping its way back into popularity and we have to say, we are loving how it looks. It’s a very elegant way to spice up a room and give it a timeless quality. Whether it’s an Art Deco-inspired light fixture or even a brass end table, we love how it pairs with more modern interiors. (Remember how we said mixing and matching is going to be key this year?)</p> <p class="rtecenter"><img alt="" src="/sites/default/files/trends_5_3.jpg" style="width: 1200px; height: 1200px;" /></p> <p class="rtecenter"><em style="text-align: center;">Photo Sources (Clockwise From Top Left): </em><span style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/Af_QapGCtvQF95yMakUgo2fNEXxcPlwYa0scGGcZjPo5dHAVhreiNSg/">1</a>,<a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/AUEzMJlSKYMMfNWt-SqKVfur3sPDDkbo0SgCDkzAeupwq6qYRdCE6Mo/"> 2</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/AdkgRXlmFlM9BKlZIRrU3bTc7bPQ1IKUjP7MkPxLDg8mLieKiS8A-28/">3</a>, <a href="http://www.elledecor.com/design-decorate/house-interiors/a5321/kelly-wearstler-midcentury-modern-decor/">4</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/643029653018417166/">5</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/570620215278073452/">6</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/440156563574026459/">7</a>, <a href="https://www.jonathanadler.com/on/demandware.static/-/Sites-catalog-master/default/dw94f394fa/hi-res/ushi-res/TopangaSofa-01crop2-styled-fall15-jonathan-adler.jpg">8</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/Ab0ZgLFrxaomGd5dcJz6wi7sqTh4mldsGqycTKmvHk98_2_K3UnhAWg/">9</a> ,<a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/493284965420941277/">10</a></span></p> <p>So, we’ve talked about Art Deco and how it’s a blast from the past, but we aren’t quite done revisiting some old favorites from a few decades ago. Think 70s: Bold furniture, playful colors and truly unique spaces. Although some of the interiors back then were a <em>little</em> too lively for some people’s taste, we found a couple of trends that are popping up again. We love that unusual shapes are being re-introduced into interior design! Adding a curved chair or couch can be the perfect way to introduce shape and personality into your space, whether you’re into midcentury or contemporary furnishings. We also think layering will be crucial, and this translates across all of our categories. The best way to make a dynamic, full, personal space is to layer it with items. </p> <p class="rtecenter"><img alt="" src="/sites/default/files/trends_6_0.jpg" style="width: 1200px; height: 1200px;" /></p> <p class="rtecenter"><em style="text-align: center;">Photo Sources (Clockwise From Top Left): </em><span style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.sarahsarna.com/lake-house/">1</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/278519558181758890/">2</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/635359459900972523/">3</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/371898881721227929/">4</a>, <a href="https://www.architecturaldigest.com/gallery/gisele-bundchen-tom-brady-los-angeles-eco-conscious-home-slideshow#13">5</a>, <a href="https://www.architecturaldigest.com/gallery/gisele-bundchen-tom-brady-los-angeles-eco-conscious-home-slideshow#9">6</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/480407485244260936/">7</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/491033165607119383/">8</a>, <a href="https://www.dorisleslieblau.com/blog/7-interior-decor-trends-for-2018-that-will-make-you-go-wow/#&amp;gid=4&amp;pid=2">9</a> ,<a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/AVKt4nhcV7whFoAnIMu3bLJ0kDP-9ac4bg65pJf7KKV_W5I9Xdw3Bz4/">10</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/22447698124533111/">11</a></span></p> <p>“Hygge” was a big conversation starter in 2017. If you’re not familiar will the phrase, hygge (pronounced “hoo-guh”) it is a Danish term that is centered around making your home as cozy and comfortable as possible to maximize your contentment with your surroundings. While we still think Scandinavian style and mentalities are prominent, there is a new design philosophy that we really like the sound of: “Wabi Sabi”. Wabi Sabi is a Japanese phrase that speaks to balance and imperfection; it’s all about authenticity and simplicity. We’re suspecting that along with this new injection of personality in interior design, the result will feel more authentic and real. No more faux industrial pieces, but higher-quality furniture that is made to last and blend with its space. The mentality, more than anything, is about how a person feels in their space as opposed to what they are surrounded by.</p> <p>What 2018 trend are you looking to incoporate into your home this year?
