This project is a renovation of an earlier LDa renovation circa 1997. We were hired by the new owner to add a new garage and family room, and to renovate the kitchen, breakfast area, basement, as well as the master bath and dressing room.
The family room, kitchen and breakfast bay addition helps moderate the height and mass of this three-story Colonial Revival Gambrel home and brings the scale down to a more intimate level. Great attention was placed on compatible design elements, resulting in an addition that appears to have always been there. From the inside, the newly finished space opens expansive views and reconnects the indoors with the outdoors, allowing the homeowners to admire the rear and side gardens.
The garage was shifted on the site and expanded to include a recreation space and bathroom on the second floor. Its new orientation allowed the driveway to be pushed closer to the property line and away from the house, thereby reconnecting the open yard to the house.
